West Virginia Rep. Alex Mooney on Tuesday introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives offering support of President Donald Trump’s challenges to election results in five states.
The resolution reflects the opinion of the overwhelming majority of those who voted for Trump, according to a CNBC/Change Research poll. The survey indicated strong support for the president continuing his challenges.
Mooney’s resolution calls for the House to “support efforts across the country to count every legal vote,” calls upon members of the House to “support all electoral investigations” and encourages neither Trump nor Biden to concede “until all investigations of alleged fraud are completed.”
The 49-year-old Mooney, who easily won re-election to his fourth term representing West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District stretching from the Potomac River to the Ohio border and including the capital of Charleston, chided fellow Republicans not to call for Trump to concede.
“I hope my House GOP colleagues today choose to adopt this resolution supporting President Trump’s efforts to count every legal vote and investigate and punish election fraud,” Mooney said in a media release on his Congressional website.
“I call on my fellow colleagues in the House GOP Conference to join me in sending a strong, united message of support for President Trump. No Republican member should prematurely call on President Trump to concede before these investigations are complete.”
The measure is unlikely to pass the Democratically controlled House.
