President Donald Trump said the horrifying slaying of an Iowa college student — and arrest Tuesday of an illegal immigrant who was allegedly responsible — highlights the "disgrace" of the nation's immigration laws.
At a rally in Charleston, West Virginia, the president vowed, "We are getting the wall built. It's going up."
"You heard about that [Tuesday] with the illegal alien coming in, very sadly from Mexico, and you saw what happened to that incredible, beautiful young woman," he asked about the death of missing Iowa coed Mollie Tibbetts.
"It should have never happened," he continued. "Illegally in our country. We have had a huge impact, but the laws are so bad, and the laws are such a disgrace, but we are getting them changed.
"But we have to get more Republicans," he urged. "This election is bigger than any one race, it's about whether we want to continue the amazing progress we have made for America – whether we want to surrender that progress to the forces of extremism, and obstruction."
