Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., issued a mea culpa Thursday on his remarks former President Barack Obama failed to leave a coronavirus pandemic plan.
"I was wrong," McConnell admitted on Fox News' "Special Report" on Thursday. "They did leave behind a plan. So, I clearly made a mistake in that regard."
McConnell's admission came when pressed by host Bret Baier on criticism of the White House coronavirus task force's response to the global pandemic.
"As to whether or not the plan was followed and who's the critic and all the rest, I don't have any observation about that because I don't know enough about the details of that, Bret, to comment on it in any detail," he added.
McConnell was referring to testimony of Health and Human Services whistleblower Dr. Rick Bright, who said "those plans were in place and it's disappointing they were not pulled out in January of this year and followed."
"They were not put on the table with a strong leader indicating these were our plans, everyone fall in line, and follow through with this plan," Bright added.
This was not the only walk-back by McConnell in recent weeks. He has had to clarify his comments about letting states "go bankrupt" amid coronavirus economic shutdowns.
He also has admitted now there will be another economic relief bill, a Phase 5 bill, likely to come, which he wants to have liability protections for businesses seeking to reopen. Some companies are wary of getting back to business out of fear of lawsuits and safety precautions in the event customers and patrons were to be infected at their locales.
