Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., is leading Republican challenger Karin Housley by 8 percentage points in the race to hold the Senate seat once held by Al Franken, according to a new Survey USA research poll released Monday for KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities.
Smith was named to fill Franken's seat after he resigned earlier this year. Housley is a Minnesota state senator.
Smith's lead is almost the same as in a SurveyUSA poll conducted six weeks ago, with Smith leading at that point by 9 points. Among voters who have already cast ballots, Smith holds a 2-1 lead.
The online poll was conducted of 1,000 adults between Oct. 29-31, including 833 registered voters.
