Democrats celebrating the debate bashing of Mike Bloomberg are making a grave mistake, forgetting who helped fund the Democrats' retaking of the House in 2018, according to Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf.
"I think these are the most despicable people I've seen in quite some time," Sheinkopf told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y. "They should be kissing Mike Bloomberg's cheeks, not punching him in the face. Without Mike Bloomberg, the Democrats would never have taken back to the House last year. He put up the money out of his own money to take back 21 seats."
Sheinkopf reminded host John Catsimatidis that Bloomberg has helped fund Democratic causes like "stopping illegal guns, public health issues, making cities and public spaces much more usable, and fighting the coal industry," issuing a striking rebuke to the debate bashing Bloomberg received from Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., among others.
"So, if that's how you treat your friends, can you imagine what they're going to do," Sheinkopf said.
"These people are not schooled," he added. "They're not bright. And they're entirely political. We need people in government who are able to look and say what is the best for the people, not for their careers.
"There is no discussion about policy, and what he has done for Democrats. There was a lot of discussion about his money. I don’t think he ought to apologize for anything. They wouldn’t be in control of the House without him."
Sheinkopf called Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Bloomberg "are the most logical candidates," adding he believes Bloomberg "can recover" from a poor debate debut.
"There were only two on that stage that were serious: One is Mike Bloomberg and the other is Amy Klobuchar," Sheinkopf said. "If either of them was the nominee, Donald Trump will have a competitive race. If Bernie Sanders is the nominee . . . Donald Trump will win."
