Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is calling for nations around the world to “step up” and share more “accurate, transparent information” on the coronavirus outbreak.

China on Monday claimed not to have identified any new cases in the Hubei province or Wuhan city, where the coronavirus outbreak began. Officials in President Donald Trump’s administration have expressed skepticism about these reports.

“When you hear [government officials] talk about risk, talk about fatalities, trying to think about how to model, what they need is data. They need data from Italy. They need data from China. They need data from Iran,” Pompeo said in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday evening.

“We need every country to step up and provide accurate, transparent information," the secretary said. "And if we can’t have that, if we have disinformation instead, there are more lives that will be at risk not only today but in the weeks ahead as we battle this enormous challenge."

Pompeo added, “We’ve asked every country to step up, tell us what they know so that the world can learn. America will then turn around and we will share the information we get. And we’ll keep people safe not only here in the United States but all across the world.”

The secretary said last week that China has placed “thousands of lives at risk” by refusing to share information on the coronavirus outbreak.

“My concern is that this cover-up, this disinformation that the Chinese Communist Party is engaged in, is still denying the world the information it needs so that we can prevent further cases or something like this from recurring again,” Pompeo said in an interview with Washington Watch’s Tony Perkins.
