Vice President Mike Pence will join President Donald Trump in the situation room for a video conference call with various governors after distancing himself from the president because two White House staffers tested positive for the coronavirus, The Hill reports.
Pence, the head of the White House coronavirus task force, will join the president and first lady Melania Trump for a conference call Monday afternoon to discuss the coronavirus response with governors. The vice president avoided various events and meetings to help ensure that he and Trump did not contract COVID-19 at the same time. Trump and Pence are both tested for the coronavirus on a daily basis, and aides at the White House are now required to wear face masks except when at their desks.
Pence “was in the room with somebody that tested positive, and he did not test positive. He tested the opposite," Trump told reporters while holding a meeting at the White House with Colorado’s and North Dakota’s governors. "He's in good shape. But I guess we said for a little while we'll stay apart because you don't know what happens with this very crazy and horrible disease."
The vice president is set to travel to Orlando, Florida later this week for a meeting with Gov. Ron DeSantis to talk about the state’s plan for reopening. While there, Pence will be delivering personal protective equipment to a nursing home in the state, and he also will meet with several leaders in the hospitality and tourism industry to talk about their plans going forward.
