Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Attorney General Jeff Sessions needs to take control of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation or resign.
His comments came during a Friday interview on television’s "Fox & Friends."
Huckabee said it "is becoming so incredibly convoluted" that someone needs to take charge.
"And if Jeff Sessions won’t, he should step down and let someone do it."
Huckabee’s comments came as Fox News reported Justice Department official Bruce Ohr in 2016 kept senior FBI officials "in the loop" about a controversial dossier on then-candidate Donald Trump.
Ohr's outreach about the dossier – as well as its author, ex-British spy Christopher Steele, the opposition research firm behind it, Fusion GPS, and his wife Nellie Ohr's work for Fusion – took place before and after the FBI fired Steele as a source over his media contacts, Fox News reported.
"I don't know if Americans fully understand what's happened here,” Huckabee said. "What's happened is the highest levels of the FBI and the Department of Justice conspired and colluded to bring down a president.”
