Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says Bill and Hillary Clinton play politics like the characters in "The Godfather" ran organized crime.
For the former president and former secretary of state, politics is "not personal. It's just business," Huckabee, a possible Republican presidential candidate,
told Fox News Sunday.
Huckabee, a former Fox News talk show host, compared the Clintons' brand of politics to the mob as he discussed the email controversy engulfing Hillary Clinton and the effect the potential scandal could have on her presidential ambitions.
Since
The New York Times reported March 2 that she used a private email system for official State Department business, many of Mrs. Clinton's Democrat supporters have been in a panic over whether
the controversy could damage her expected presidential campaign.
In his appearance on Fox on Sunday, Huckabee said that as a former politician he understands the desire to keep secrets.
"I think anybody who's ever been in politics would love to keep a lot of things quiet," he said. "People want the candor of conversation."
However, Huckabee added, Mrs. Clinton should have known of the risks of conducting business on a private email system that could have been a "serious target for being hacked."
"If she had been shopping on Amazon, that would have been different," he said.
Huckabee, who has known the Clintons for decades, noted that he always maintained cordial relations with them, even though they always campaigned for his political opponents.
"I look at it like Michael Corleone once looked at the business he was in," Huckabee said, referring to "The Godfather" character. "It's not personal, it's just business,"
