President Donald Trump should make Democrats "eat the fact" that they erected many Confederate monuments they're now demanding be removed, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday.
In an interview on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" with Maria Bartiromo," Huckabee said "it was Democrats who fought racial equality all the way up through the 60s."
"Let's make the Democrats eat the fact that it was Democrats who built those statues," Huckabee added. "Let's make them remember their history and the statues that they built for the racists that were the ones who stood at schoolhouse stores across the South and said to African Americans, 'You can't come in these school doors.'"
He added that Trump should also "call upon Democrats to never again have a Jefferson-Jackson dinner…" named after men who were slave owners.
Huckabee argued he'd like to see Trump "outdo his opponents," and said his supporters in the faith community and rural areas continue to stand by him.
"The tough part for him is he's got to realize it's not going to get better," Huckabee said of opposition. "The press hate him. The Democrats hate him, they want to get rid of him. And sadly, there are a lot of Republicans who hate him and are trying to get rid of him."
He also blasted Republicans in Congress "who will not do what they promised to do," and declared that if tax cuts or reforms aren't done by the end of the year, "Republicans deserve to lose in the midterm…"
