Clint Eastwood made Mike Huckabee's day, and the former governor gave a glowing review to the actor's conservative-friendly take on the presidential election and political correctness.
"If you must listen to a celebrity pontificate on politics, Clint Eastwood is a pretty entertaining choice (that is, if Chuck Norris isn't around)," Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and two-time presidential candidate, writes on his Facebook page.
In the interview with Esquire, the Oscar-winning director of "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby" — a dyed-in-the-wool Republican — said:
"I'd have to go for Trump … you know, 'cause [Hillary Clinton has] declared that she's gonna follow in Obama's footsteps. There's been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She's made a lot of dough out of being a politician."
Eastwood also agreed with Trump that political correctness has run amok.
"He's onto something, because secretly everybody's getting tired of political correctness, kissing up," he said. "Everybody's walking on eggshells. All these people that say, 'Oh, you can't do that, and you can't do this, and you can't say that.' I guess it's just the times," Eastwood told Esquire.
"What Trump is onto is he's just saying what's on his mind. And sometimes it's not so good. And sometimes it's … I mean, I can understand where he's coming from, but I don't always agree with it."
The Hollywood veteran, who first rocketed to stardom as an actor in spaghetti westerns and the "Dirty Harry" movies, added he is not impressed with the nation's "kiss-ass generation."
At the 2012 Republican National Convention, Eastwood took the stage and famously used an empty chair as a stand-in for President Barack Obama — an unusual gimmick that garnered mixed reviews.
