Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is expected to endorse Republican congressional candidate Omar Navarro in California on Friday, ABC News reports.
"He's endorsing me," said Navarro, a small-business owner who is challenging longtime Democrat Maxine Waters.
Joy Miedecke, the president of the East Valley Republican Women Federated, also told ABC News that Flynn was attending their event for Navarro in La Quinta, California.
In addition, a source close to Flynn told the network that he was to attend the event and endorse Navarro.
Navarro tweeted about the event.
Flynn, 59, who was fired in February 2016 by President Donald Trump amid his disclosures on Russia to Vice President Mike Pence, has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
Navarro, who lost to Waters in 2016 and is not endorsed by the California Republican Party, told ABC that he and Flynn had been communicating via email.
They met in February at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside Washington.
"We talked to each other for two hours," Navarro told ABC. "We got along really well."
He dismissed concerns about the Flynn and the Russia probe.
"I was very happy" to have the endorsement, "because I have a lot of respect for the man," he told ABC. "It was an honor — and it's great to have the support for my campaign.
"I'm more than honored to have his endorsement."
