Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, looking to put a dent in the federal deficit, noted the government will benefit as Americans make more money.
His comments came Monday during an interview on Fox Business Network's "Mornings With Maria."
"When people make more money, the government takes in more money in taxes," he said.
And he said the government is already seeing some "really, really good signs" as it focuses on growing the economy.
"In a healthy American economy, where people are making more, the government takes in more revenue, and that shrinks our deficits," he added.
Mulvaney said in April growth projections are already ahead of schedule.
