The Republican city clerk of Rochester Hills, Michigan, is disputing claims by RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel that 2,000 Republican ballots were credited to Democrats due to a clerical error.
City Clerk Tina Barton posted a video on Twitter Friday night to dispute the claim.
"All ballots are and have been accounted for," Barton says in the video. "There were no missing ballots. The accusation that 2,000 ballots were 'found' is categorically false. As a Republican, I am disturbed that this is intentionally being mischaracterized to undermine the election process."
Barton said the error was "an isolated mistake that was quickly rectified, once realized," adding "Every voter should have complete confidence in our voting system. Every vote that was cast was counted accurately and there's a paper ballot backup. I stand by our reported results."
McDaniel listed multiple other purported irregularities in Michigan as the vote counting continues in that state, where former Vice President Joe Biden has been declared the winner by most news organizations. President Donald Trump is mounting legal challenges in multiple states as counting continues in the largest voter turnout in the history of presidential elections — with many of those votes cast early or by mail because of the coronavirus pandemic.
