Michigan Rep. Mike Bishop Backs Kasich

Michigan Rep. Mike Bishop announced his endorsement of Ohio Gov. John Kasich for president on Sunday, The Hill reports.

Bishop said Kasich is a "compassionate, pragmatic leader" who will be ready lead immediately.

"His achievement of cutting taxes, balancing budgets and creating jobs will revive our economy just like it has done for Ohio," Bishop said. "I am proud to stand behind him and support his campaign to be our president."

"We are happy to have Congressman Bishop on the team," Kasich said. "I am thankful for his endorsement as we continue to spread a positive message for commonsense, conservative solutions across Michigan."

Michigan votes on Tuesday, and a recent ARG poll shows Kasich overtaking businessman Donald Trump for the top spot there, though the latest CBS News Battleground Tracker poll shows Kasich in last place.

Kasich also secured the endorsement of former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday.
