Michael Wolff, the author of the forthcoming book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," has dozens of hours of taped interviews to back up the quotes that appear in the book, Axios reported.
Wolff spent hours in private White House areas, including Reince Priebus' office during his tenure as White House chief of staff, and he was cleared for access to the West Wing fewer than 20 times, the website reported.
White House sources frequently met the author at the Hay Adams Hotel, where he stayed in Washington, D.C., the report said.
Washington Post media reporter Paul Farhi cast doubt on the book Wednesday, saying, "A provocateur and media polemicist, Wolff has a penchant for stirring up an argument and pushing the facts as far as they'll go."
Reporters and officials questioned how Wolff got information from a private dinner between Bannon and former Fox president Roger Ailes. Wolff was the host of the dinner, which occurred at his Manhattan townhouse, according to Axios.
Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist, blasts members of Donald Trump's administration in the book. In one excerpt, Bannon said a 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Trump campaign aides, and a Russian lawyer was "treasonous."
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a response Wednesday, saying "Furious, disgusted would probably certainly fit when you make such outrageous claims and completely false claims."
