Michael Avenatti on Thursday announced he'd be speaking at a Democratic fundraiser next month in Iowa that's known as a key stop for aspiring presidential candidates.
It's not clear if the lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels is planning to run for president in 2020, but he's asserted his position before.
Avenatti tweeted earlier this month that he would run if President Donald Trump seeks reelection and if Avenatti thought there were no decent Democratic candidates to defeat the president.
Further, the other two speakers lined up so far for the Aug. 10 Wing Ding dinner are Democratic Reps. John Delaney and Tim Ryan. Delaney is the first - and only - Democrat to officially declare for 2020 and Ryan is rumored to be mulling a run.
And Avenatti asked to be invited, not the other way around, CNN reports.
Avenatti "indicated to one of our state party members that he would be interested in speaking, and the Wing Ding Committee then extended the offer to him," John Colombo, vice chairman of the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding, told CNN.
