Miami Herald Endorses Rubio for Senate

Monday, 25 October 2010 10:10 AM EDT

Republican Marco Rubio received a high profile endorsement from The Miami Herald on Sunday, just nine days ahead of Election Day. According to the Herald report,  Rubio “has been the driving force in this race,” and “can grow into a consensus-seeker” that would benefit the people of Florida.

Kendrick Meek is called a “dependable supporter of the Obama administration,” while questions are raised about his judgment based on his involvement with an indicted developer. Independent Gov. Charlie Crist’s judgment was also called into question regarding his political pragmatism, which the Herald described as “sometimes too elastic.”

While citing disagreement with Rubio’s stances on healthcare reform and immigration, described as “far-right,” the Herald commended the Republican’s position on fiscal restraint. Rubio has “exhibited common sense on Social Security,” according to the Herald, which acknowledged that neither Crist nor Meek has taken such a clear stance.
