Slightly more than half of Americans think it was inappropriate for Donald Trump Jr. to meet with a Russian lawyer whom he believed had damaging information about Hillary Clinton, a new survey found.
In the HuffPost and YouGov survey, 53 percent said it was inappropriate for Trump Jr. to take the meeting; 22 percent thought it was appropriate, and 25 percent were unsure.
While 89 percent of Hillary Clinton supporters said the meeting was inappropriate, only 17 percent of those who support President Donald Trump thought so, while 60 percent of Trump backers thought it was appropriate, and 24 percent were unsure.
Among Republicans, 22 percent thought it was inappropriate, while 47 percent called it appropriate.
In other findings:
- 46 percent consider the Trump administration's relationship with Russia "a legitimate issue," with 34 percent considering it a very serious problem and 48 percent believing it a somewhat serious problem.
- Among Trump voters who think the meeting was inappropriate or who are not sure, 24 percent consider the administration's Russia ties a somewhat serious problem.
The poll consisted of 1,000 interviews conducted between July 11-13 among a sample of adults from YouGov's opt-in online panel.
