President Donald Trump's election in 2024 is “there for his taking,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Wednesday.
In remarks on “Fox & Friends,” McEnany initially dodged the issue when questioned by co-host Steve Doocy.
“Today, you are appearing as campaign spokesperson, yet I think it was last night the campaign sent out a fundraising email from the campaign asking ‘should President Trump run in 2024?’ What was that about?” Doocy asked.
She said she thought the campaign was “just putting out that thought.”
But Doocy pressed, “You are the campaign spokesperson.”
“Yes, yes,” she replied, insisting: “He is still focused on 2020.”
“But 2024 — look, he's the leader of this movement," she said. "No matter what happens in 2020, 2024 is there is for his taking. His base is strong.
“They're not going away. The forgotten men and women are forgotten no longer because they had four years of President Trump, hopefully four more.
“But 2024 is there if President Trump would like it.”
She also addressed speculation Trump won’t show up at the inauguration.
“That is the million dollar question,” she said. “I've been asked it a lot. I will leave that to the president.
“Right now, he's still got his litigation playing out as we approach Jan. 20 so I'll leave it to him,” she added. “We'll see. We've got a lot to get through before we get to Jan. 20.”
