Democrats that have expressed their opposition to tax reform legislation used to be in favor of such actions, according to Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.

In 2016, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was in favor of cutting the corporate tax rate and had said he would work with Republicans to cut taxes for the middle class, McDaniel wrote in a column for the Washington Examiner.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called for a corporate tax rate cut and also for a repeal of the Alternative Minimum Tax, which is included in the Republican tax reform legislation, McDaniel wrote.

"Democrats were in favor of key provisions of the new tax cut package before there ever was a plan," McDaniel wrote.

Democrats had said they would set aside partisanship to work on tax reform, but they did not, McDaniel said.

"When President (Donald) Trump and Republicans offered a framework to do just that, they reversed course and offered a disingenuous narrative that paints the plan as a scheme to help the wealthy," McDaniel wrote.

"Now, they're nowhere to be found, showing Americans that they care more about playing politics than helping the middle-class," McDaniel wrote.
