Michigan’s McCotter: Aide and Intern Tried to Sink Me

By    |   Friday, 12 April 2013 12:27 PM EDT

Former Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter has filed suit against a former aide and intern, charging they submitted forged nominating petitions to sabotage his House re-election campaign.

The lawsuit names Don Yowchuang, McCotter’s former deputy district director, and Dillon Breen, a 20-year-old ex-intern, the Hill reports.

It claims the duo submitted forgeries in a knowing bid to keep McCotter, a Republican, off the ballot.

McCotter’s lawyer David Ottenwess told the Associated Press Yowchuang and Breen “purposefully submitted forged petitions,’’ and labelled their actions “sabotage.’’

In 2012, McCotter’s re-election campaign submitted 2,000 signatures, but state election officials only validated a few hundred, The Hill said.

Yowchuang pleaded no-contest to forgery charges. Breen was not charged with criminal wrongdoing.
