Kentucky Democrats denounced a political operative who used social media to emphasize how Elaine Chao, wife of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, is Asian.

The state's Democratic Party rebuked Kathy Groob for her posts Saturday on Twitter. "Google Elaine Chao, #MitchMcConnell's wife. No mention of Kentucky, she is Asian," Groob wrote on Twitter, according to Louisville TV station WHAS, whose reporter posted the screen grabs of her Twitter feed to its website.

Groob, the founder of Elect Women, said in another post: "Hey Mitch. Nothing against your wife and spouses should be off limits; since you mentioned, she isn't from KY, she is Asian."

The party quickly apologized.

"These comments are abhorrent and have no place in Kentucky politics. We strongly denounce them," Kentucky Democrats said in a statement.

Groob later deleted some of her posts and apologized for her "poor choice of words," The Courier-Journal of Louisville reported.

By Monday morning, Groob had deleted her Twitter account, The Blaze reported.

Chao, a Harvard graduate and former U.S. labor secretary, was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and has campaigned with her husband, in his re-election bid, The New York Times reported earlier this year. He is locked in a tight race with Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.
