Plane Used by McCaskill to be Sold, Taxes Paid

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill says a company in which she and her husband have an ownership interest is selling a plane she used for Senate business and paying more than $280,000 in overdue property taxes.

The Missouri Democrat says checks covering the taxes were to be sent Monday to St. Louis County, where the eight-seater is housed.

McCaskill's Senate office paid to use the plane, though she repaid the U.S. Treasury for the flights. McCaskill says she convinced her husband to sell the plane and that she does not plan to ever set foot on it again.

McCaskill says the unpaid taxes are a mistake. She says there was no attempt to hide the plane's existence and that monthly sales taxes have been paid on the plane for several years.
