Democrats pushing to remove President Donald Trump from office are "appeasing the socialist wing of the party" and will not stop their actions as long as the party maintains control of the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy warned Tuesday.
"They realized their case is so weak, they are asking for now witnesses who they wouldn't even subpoena themselves," the California Republican and House Minority Leader said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "They know what the end result is ... the bipartisan vote is going to be opposed to this. This is exactly what Alexander Hamilton warned us about ... the fear I have is if they were to stay in power, this would just continue."
Trump's impeachment is not "really politics," but instead it's a nightmare Democrats campaigned with, he added.
"Here is the president overseas promoting America and they're going to be over in the Senate promoting this nightmare even further, but it's such a weak case," said McCarthy. "We all have the transcript. We don't need much time to go through it. There's nothing in there that's impeachable. Let's get back to do what the American public wants us to do, the business at hand."
He also complained that House Democrats have timed actions for when Trump is on the world stage, including on Sept. 24 when Trump was at the United Nations council and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she was moving forward with impeachment, on Dec. 4 when Trump was at NATO, and on Tuesday while he's at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
"They have timed each and every time to try to upset this president, to try to talk about something else than what Congress should be working on, but the great thing about this president, he never lets that get to him," said McCarthy. "The great thing about this president, he never lets that get to him and we have the strongest economy in the history of America in the last 50 years."
