Clinton Plans Second Fundraiser for Va. Gov. Candidate McAuliffe

By    |   Thursday, 19 Sep 2013 03:13 PM

Hillary Clinton is planning a second fundraiser for Terry McAuliffe, her longtime political associate and friend who is seeking the Democratic nomination for Virginia governor.

The former secretary of state and first lady will host a $25,000-per-couple fundraiser in New York City for McAuliffe on Oct 15, reports Politico, just two weeks after one already planned for Sept. 30.

Clinton and former President Bill Clinton have, for the most part, kept quiet politically after she stepped down as secretary of state earlier this year. For example, they waited until after New York City's primary election concluded before backing any Democratic candidates, opting to endorse winner Bill de Blasio only after he snagged the nomination.

Her fundraiser on Sept. 30 will be the former first lady's first political event since she stepped down from the Obama administration. However, her husband has already been working to raise money for McAuliffe's campaign, bringing in a quick $400,000 in one Florida fundraiser alone.

The former secretary of state has made it clear that she considers helping McAuliffe an exception to the rule, and plans to remain quiet on other races.

McAuliffe and the Clintons go back a long way. He chaired Bill Clinton's 1996 presidential re-election campaign, and co-chaired Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign.

According to The Washington Post, many Democrats are considering the McAuliffe race as a possible beginning of a presidential run for Hillary Clinton, with donors believing they can attract her attention by helping the Virginia politician.

However, those close to her told the newspaper that a potential Clinton campaign could be damaged that way.

"I can’t tell you how many people inside Hillary’s world are furious with that," a Clinton insider said. "It is not a trial run. This is not a campaign-in-waiting."
