Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said Sunday that Democrats "missed their opportunity to impeach" President Donald Trump for treason.
Waters, chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, used her Twitter account to express regret regarding impeachment.
Waters tweeted:
"On my 3/2017 pinned tweet one can see [Paul] Manafort, [Michael] Flynn, [Roger] Stone, all of whom have been pardoned & more of them to come. They know the criminal & illegal relationship btw Trump & [Vladimir] Putin! They're part of it! We missed our opportunity to impeach him for treason. [New York] can make up for it!"
New York prosecutors are investigating President Trump's business dealings and whether he misled tax authorities, banks, or business partners.
The House approved articles of impeachment against President Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress last December. The Senate then acquitted the president of the charges.
Waters also claimed the president is protecting Russia.
She tweeted:
"Take a look at my pinned tweet, 3/16/2017! I tweeted the faces of the Kremlin Klan! My tweets continue to reveal the dangers of Trump & his love of Putin! The Prez is LYING about China to protect Putin! Yes, Putin is responsible for the cyber attack!"
U.S. officials last week said Russia was suspected of a cyberattack targeting the government and some international companies.
President Trump tweeted Saturday:
"Russia, Russia, Russia is the priority chant when anything happens because Lamestream is, for mostly financial reasons, petrified of.... discussing the possibility that it may be China (it may!)."
