Democrat Maxine Waters laid into Ben Carson at a speech over the weekend, saying the head of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) "doesn't know the difference between an immigrant and a slave," Essence reported.
During a 15-minute speech Saturday that ended with the California congresswoman starting a chant of "Impeach 45!" — Donald Trump, the nation's 45th president — before the audience at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, Waters saved many of her pointed remarks for Carson.
"Ben Carson was appointed to be the HUD secretary. He knows nothing about the mission of HUD," Waters told the Essence crowd.
"He doesn't care about people in public housing. He believes that if you are poor, it is your own fault. And he doesn't know the difference between an immigrant and a slave," Essence quoted Waters.
"And if he thinks when he comes before my committee where I am the ranking member of the (House) financial services (committee) that I am going to give him a pass, I am going to take his *** apart," Waters said, according to Essence.
Waters ended her speech with a familiar refrain from her and liberals on Trump.
"I don't honor him, I don't respect him and I am not going to tolerate him. I am going to do everything I can do to get him impeached," Waters said in the Essence report.
