The emerging news about how Hillary Clinton's investigation was treated during the 2016 presidential campaign is "deeply troubling," Rep. Matt Gaetz said Wednesday.
"It's deeply troubling that you have got a legal double standard that's playing out before our very eyes," the Florida Republican, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program.
"You have people who hate [President Donald Trump] who have a bias against him investigating him," he added. "Meanwhile, you've got the Hillary Clinton Fan Club involved in the decisions that relate to her illegal conduct."
The congressman said what he finds most concerning is that Andrew McCabe, the current deputy director of the FBI, designated Clinton's email scandal as "special" and said it would not go "through the normal investigative procedures" and be handled with a small team.
"At the same time, we're sick of people who hate the president who have a bias against him, and that's deeply unfair and something we have got to look into," Gaetz said.
Gaetz said it's also important to learn what role FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was removed from the special investigation into Russian activities during the election, had in a dossier used to discredit Trump.
"Tomorrow the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, will be before the Judiciary Committee and we want answers," Gaetz said. "We have got to find out what's going to be done to clean up the deep state that is discrediting the rule of law in this country giving special treatment to liberal Democrats."
