Trump campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley on Tuesday argued that President Donald Trump has "led" on mask-wearing a day after the president caught flak from the news media for being reckless following his COVID-19 diagnosis.
"Listen, I am so angry at the way the media has covered this mask issue," Gidley said during an appearance on Fox News. "He was talking about masks on March 31 and April 3 — he stood with the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] when they issued the guidelines wearing masks."
"This president has led on the issue at every single turn," he declared. "And right now is no different. He pulled out a mask at the debate and said here, 'I have mine. I wear mine.'"
Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden on Tuesday tweeted a meme showing Trump removing his face mask upon arrival at the White House after his treatment for coronavirus alongside a video of himself putting on a mask like a superhero.
CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on Monday wouldn't play video footage of Trump removing his mask on a balcony at the White House, calling it propaganda.
"What a bunch of bulls---," Cuomo said.
"He didn't just walk in the White House one time with no mask tonight. He had his video crew capture that stupid scene again so he could put out propaganda," the anchor added.
Trump tested positive for COVID-19 last Thursday and received treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
