Poll: Rep. McSally Leads Primary; Lags Behind Possible Dem Opponent

Rep. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., is in the lead in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, but she remains behind Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., her possible Democratic opponent in the general election, The Hill reported.

Results from the OH Predictive Insights poll:

• 35 percent support McSally
• 27 percent support state Sen. Kelli Ward
• 15 percent support former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio
• 23 percent are undecided

In the possible general election match-up:

• 48 percent of those who voted in the poll support Sinema
• 44 percent support McSally

However, McSally is closest to Sinema in polling than Ward and Arpaio; Sinema is ahead of them by double digits, the poll results said.

The Arizona primary is Aug. 28, which will lead to the general election in November to replace retiring Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.

Democrats have not won a Senate seat in Arizona since 1988, The Hill noted.

The OH Predictive Insights poll was conducted from July 23 to July 25 among 576 likely GOP primary voters, with a margin of error of 4.08 percentage points.

For the general election sampling, the poll was conducted July 24 and 25 among 600 likely general election voters, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points, the poll report said.

McSally said she aims to strengthen the Border Patrol and crack down on sanctuary cities, she said in a campaign video.
