Sen. Mullin to Newsmax: Hunter's Arrogance Won't Help His Case

By    |   Wednesday, 10 January 2024 08:06 PM EST

Hunter Biden's surprise appearance at a House committee hearing to determine whether he should be held in contempt of Congress for defying a congressional subpoena will backfire on him, Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., told Newsmax on Wednesday.

Hunter Biden caused a stir by appearing at a hearing Wednesday of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which had subpoenaed him to testify Dec. 13 in a closed-door deposition regarding an impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden.

Hunter Biden and his attorneys sat down for about 10 minutes during the hearing before leaving. The Oversight and Judiciary committees later advanced the contempt resolution for a vote on the House floor.

"It didn't help his case," Mullin told "Carl Higbie Frontline." "In fact, I think most Americans will think this showed extreme arrogance on his part because he can't show up for the hearing when he's supposed to be asked questions, but he wants to show up in defiance and just stare at them and then stay 10 minutes and walk back out the door. It was absolutely ridiculous."

Mullin said the behavior was typical of Hunter Biden, whose foreign business dealings are a central part of the impeachment inquiry into allegations of influence peddling involving his father and members of his family.

"It's this above-the-law mentality that the whole Biden family has," Mullin said. "The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree right here when it comes from the dad thinking he's above the law, thinking he can say whatever he wants, act however he wants and just deny the true facts.

"Hunter Biden is a recovering drug addict, recovering alcoholic [who is] probably not all put together yet. And he thinks he's just going to walk into a hearing, do this dog and pony show, show defiance to the committee and then walk back out the door."
