The controversy about Facebook and Cambridge Analytica is more about privacy issues than political ones, and it's likely that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will appear on Capitol Hill to testify, Rep. John Ratcliffe said Thursday.
The Texas Republican, a member of the House Judiciary Committee told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" that a meeting is being setup between members of his committee and Facebook officials to set the parameters for Zuckerberg and other company officials to come testify.
"I do think he will come and testify," said Ratcliffe. "What I do hope is we will focus on the larger picture here about privacy and trust in the digital age. I think this is more of a privacy issue than a political issue at this point, but we need to figure out what Facebook was doing to enforce the privacy policies on behalf of the 2.2 billion users worldwide."
Zuckerberg is the representative who can best speak for Facebook and address users who have real concerns about their private information, said Ratcliffe.
"Democrats wonder whether or not the Cambridge Analytica was part of a plan to help the [Donald] Trump campaign," said Ratcliffe. "Thus far, it appears whether the Trump campaign even accessed that information is in question."
It's important to bring in Zuckerberg, said Ratcliffe, as there is much that is not known about companies where personal information is being trusted, and whether their own privacy tools are being used.
