Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., told Newsmax on Thursday that President Joe Biden and his administration are "responsible" for the recent attacks by Iran on its neighboring countries in the Middle East.
Hostilities in the region have been raised since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas and the ensuing retaliation by Israel. And recently, the U.S. State Department issued a statement condemning Iran for recent airstrikes in multiple Middle Eastern countries, including Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria.
Alford addressed these recent incidents in an interview on "Newsline," saying, "I lay this firmly at the feet of Joe Biden and his administration."
He blamed "releasing that sanctioned money, millions and millions of dollars."
"And they continue to do so, to make that available to Iran. It is fungible assets that they're using to fund ... terrorism, Hamas, fund the Houthis."
Alford continued, "We've got Pakistan firing on Iran, ... Iran firing on Pakistan, Iran firing on our consulate in Iraq. We're firing on the Houthis to try to stop them. This is a powder keg. My fear is this is going to blow up."
When asked what he would say to Biden if he were advising the president, Alford said, "I would say that he needs to get his head out. He needs to concentrate on the world situation, the conflagration that could be happening in the Mideast."
The Missouri Republican added that Biden "is responsible for this" due to "the weakness that he has shown on the world stage, starting with Afghanistan. Next, his lack of determination in immediately supporting Israel after Hamas brutally attacked Israel. We've got to let the world know who our partners are; we are standing firm with them."
