Most Republicans want Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele to step aside. And it appears that Maria Cino, an aide in the George W. Bush administration, is getting ready to run for the job,
Politico reports.
She has created a 527 committee, which serves as a fundraising vehicle for political candidates, in a sign that she’s ready to make her move. Cino filed documents with the Federal Election Committee to form the “Maria for Chairman” group Friday.
Mary Cheney, the daughter of the former vice president, is listed in the documents as one of three organizers of the committee. Cino will probably make her official announcements after Thanksgiving, according to a source close to her.
Cino was deputy secretary of transportation in the Bush administration and a senior aide at the National Republican Congressional Committee in the 1990s. She is now a Washington-based lobbyist for Pfizer.
