Rubio: 'Not Sure' Any Senate Immigration Plan Has Votes to Pass

By    |   Thursday, 15 February 2018 01:58 PM EST

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said Thursday that he was not certain that any immigration plans up for votes in the Senate would pass during a Thursday interview on "Fox & Friends."

"To be frank, I’m not sure any of the four plans have the votes to pass today. It’s a tough issue… I know for certain that I support the president’s plan, and all four of those pillars are things I have voted for and supported in the past,” Rubio said, referring to a Trump planned that called for a path to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients, border security including a wall, and ending chain migration and the visa lottery system.

The senator also credited a bipartisan immigration plan that included sponsorship from Sens. Mike Rounds, R-S.C., and Susan Collins, R-Maine. "It has a lot of things in there I like, as well, and probably has a couple of things I would do different. I’m open to supporting it," Rubio said in the interview.

Two of the four Trump pillars are in that bill, legalization and border security, said "Fox & Friends" co-anchor Brian Kilmeade. "I will handle anything that makes things better," Rubio said.

He added that the Collins-Rounds plan would cover more people than Trump’s plan. "It adds an additional group of people… the cutoff for the Collins-Rounds plan is 2012. So that’s another five years of people that become eligible," Rubio said in the interview.

The president on Thursday sent a tweet calling for a system of merit-based immigration.
