Sen. Joe Manchin will meet next week with Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, Politico is reporting.
Politico reports the meeting signals Kavanaugh is beginning to try to convince certain Democrats to support him. It's the first of two meetings Manchin plans to have with Kavanaugh.
The meeting will take place Monday, a Manchin aide told Politico.
The website noted Manchin, D-W.Va., is considered one of the most likely Democrats to vote for Kavanaugh. Manchin, along with Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Donnelly of Indiana, voted to confirm Trump's pick of Neil Gorsuch to the high court last year.
Manchin recently told MetroNews' "Talkline" radio show that Kavanaugh has "all the right qualities." But Manchin has stressed he has reached no decision on the nominee.
"I intend to have two meetings with him – one before his hearing, one after his hearing – and then make my decision based on that," Manchin said.
