A Virginia Beach man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to murder Rep. Scott Taylor, a Virginia Republican.
The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia said Wallace Grove Godwin, 69, was to be arraigned in a federal courthouse in Norfolk, Virginia on Friday afternoon.
According to court documents, Godwin visited Taylor's office on Thursday and became frustrated during a discussion about marijuana policy, WTKR News reports.
Godwin then allegedly made the following statement to a staff member: "Scott is having an event this Saturday. I am going to get my shotgun and do something about this. I will just handle this myself."
According to WTKR, he then pointed at two staffers in the room and stated, "You two are next."
Taylor and Godwin have a history.
In 2017, Godwin is said to have visited Taylor's residence, "blocked the congressman's vehicle with his own vehicle, and waited for the congressman to come outside," one officer told Politico.
If convicted, Godwin faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Taylor, a former American Navy SEAL who represents Virginia's 2nd congressional district, was previously a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 85th district.
