Maine Gov: AG on Her Own in Opposing Trump Immigration Ban

Maine Gov. Paul LePage, an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump, said the state's Attorney General Janet Mills "speaks for herself" in opposing the president's ban of immigrants from seven Muslim-heavy countries.

In his first public statement in support of the ban, which has been halted by a federal judge's order, LePage tweeted:

AG Mills speaks for herself on immigration order. I fully support @realDonaldTrump exec action to protect all Americans. #mepolitics #MAGA

Mills added her name to a legal brief Monday with 15 other Democratic attorneys general urging a federal appeals court to uphold the stay against Trump's executive order.

But The Bangor Daily News noted, per state law, "the attorney general — and not the governor — speaks for the state on legal issues."
