Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., had strong words for former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and doled out some advice to Doug Jones, the man who won the election Tuesday night to replace him, during an interview Wednesday.
Strange appeared on Fox News' "Your World" with Neil Cavuto and was asked about the results of Tuesday night's special election that saw Jones defeat Republican Roy Moore. Strange lost in the GOP primary to Moore.
"I've known Doug Jones for 30 years," Strange said. "He's a former prosecutor. I talked to him. My advice to him, do what I've done. Get to be close to Richard Shelby, our senior senator. Nobody has ever done more for Alabama or the Republican Party than Shelby.
"If Doug Jones is smart, he will work with Shelby to advance our state. I've done that and that would be my recommendation to Doug."
Regarding Bannon, who was a vocal supporter of Moore despite the fact several women accused Moore of sexual misconduct dating back 40 years, Strange did not have many nice things to say.
"I've never seen him accomplish anything," Strange said. "He has accomplished one thing . . . that's getting a Democrat elected in the state of Alabama."
Strange was appointed his Senate seat in February after his predecessor Jeff Sessions became attorney general. A special election was later scheduled to determine who would serve the remainder of Sessions' term, in which Jones was victorious.
