Sen. Strange: Launching Write-in Campaign 'Highly Unlikely'

Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., reportedly says it is "highly unlikely" he will mount a write-in campaign against special election candidate Roy Moore amid accusations of his sexual misconduct.

Correspondents for NBC News and Politico both tweeted out the assertion as Moore heads into the last weeks before Alabama's special election Dec. 12.

Strange lost to Moore in the primary runoff in September.

After explosive reports Moore had sexually assaulted or had inappropriate sexual contact with teenage girls, however, there are calls for Strange to make a write-in bid, The Hill reported.

In the latest allegation, Beverly Young Nelson has accused Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was 16. The Washington Post revealed allegations from other women who claimed inappropriate sexual contact, including a 14-year-old in 1979, when he as 32.

Moore has denied the accusations.

Some senators, including Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, also are calling for Strange to launch a bid against Moore.
