A leading Republican senator is considering issuing congressional subpoenas to former FBI director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch for their roles in the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
The Hill cited a C-SPAN interview with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, in which the Iowa Republican said he wants the pair to appear before Congress for a grilling.
"I want to subpoena [Comey and Lynch]," Grassley said during an appearance on "Newsmakers."
Grassley then noted the ranking Democrat on his committee — Sen. Dianne Feinstein D-Calif. — would need to sign off on any subpoena he intends to issue.
"If Sen. Feinstein told me yesterday that she would do it, we'll do it," he said.
A recent inspector general report on the Department of Justice's handling of the Clinton email probe was critical of how Comey dealt with portions of the investigation.
Lynch has also come under fire over allegations she might have been influenced by either the Obama administration or the Clinton campaign when it came to the DOJ's position on the Clinton case. In particular, an impromptu airport tarmac meeting between Lynch and former President Bill Clinton raised eyebrows.
