Sen. Lindsey Graham said there is more to come in the controversy surrounding the events that led former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to take a plea deal.
The Republican from South Carolina told Fox News Channel’s “Hannity" that Gen. Flynn “was a victim of an out-of-control Department of Justice.”
During the Wednesday interview, Graham said Flynn was “railroaded.”
Graham said the newly released FBI notes “reek of criminal misconduct.”
He said any investigation into the documents will be done to “make sure this never happens again to any American, much less a war hero.”
Graham said he knows Attorney General William Barr will be fair in determining whether or not there was wrongdoing.
“Attorney General Barr needs to be complimented,” Graham said. “He is doing the right thing. He has three goals that I share — restore trust, hold people accountable who have engaged in misconduct, and right wrongs like Gen. Flynn.”
He continued, "I trust Attorney General Barr to be fair to everybody involved, those being investigated, but his goal, I know him very well, is to right the ship, is to restore trust that’s been lost, to hold people accountable. One of the worst things that can happen in any democracy is for those who are in charge of the law to take it into their own hands for political purposes. I think that’s what’s happened here, but time will tell."
He said Flynn deserved better treatment from his government.
“He was willing to die for his country,” Graham said.
