The purported White House drama around President Donald Trump that was portrayed in an anonymous New York Times essay Wednesday is "palace intrigue," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said.
Graham was on CNN's "The Situation Room" and was asked about the story that is making headlines across the nation. The piece was written by a senior member of the Trump administration, but the person opted to withhold his or her name.
"I've never heard that before, this palace intrigue," Graham said. "I don't mean to bust a bubble here, but most people in South Carolina are not going to take the op-ed in The New York Times very seriously. … President Trump, in my world, where I live, in South Carolina, most people are very pleased with what the president's doing."
Graham later added that Trump's results are ultimately what matter, not what members of his administration think of his leadership style or how he's running the country.
"I think this president has done more to rebuild a broken military than anybody since Ronald Reagan," Graham said. "I think this president has taken it to our enemies much better than the last president. I think withdrawing from the Iran nuclear agreement was a good decision. I think cutting taxes is benefiting the average American.
"What they will say, in the White House, palace intrigue is one thing, results are another."
Trump reacted to the Times piece at the end of a White House event with law enforcement officials and again on Twitter.
