Sen. Lindsey Graham would subpoena intelligence agencies to get more information about President Donald Trump's claims that former President Barack Obama ordered wiretaps of Trump Tower before Trump became president.
"All I can say is that the country needs an answer to this. The current president has accused the former president of basically wiretapping his campaign," the South Carolina Republican said Wednesday on CNN.
Graham, along with Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, sent a letter to acting deputy attorney general Dana Boente and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey about the claims, CNN's report said.
"We request that the Department of Justice provide us copies of any warrant applications and court orders . . . related to wiretaps of President Trump, the Trump campaign, or Trump Tower," the senators wrote in the letter.
The South Carolina Republican has had a contentious relationship with Trump, but said Tuesday that he had a good meeting with the president, according to a tweet:
During the president campaign, Graham called Trump a "nut job."
