President Donald Trump’s economic adviser Larry Kudlow hailed the new trade deal between U.S. and Mexico, saying it promotes growth for both sides.
Kudlow made his remarks during a Tuesday interview on Fox News's “Fox & Friends.”
“Honestly, this thing does a lot,” he said. “It keeps the integrated supply chain going in North America. That is huge for business confidence. It opens up a lot of markets. It protects intellectual property. It actually extends some patents and copyrights for new drugs. All this is very helpful.
“It protects workers. It has a higher domestic or North American content. That's a good thing because we don't want China to come on and encroach. They won't let us in their place, so we're going to have to protect our own workers.
“It shows you, two sides with good will, can sit down and work out what is essentially a free trade deal…Nobody thought we could do it. It’s going to promote economic growth (on) both sides of the border.”
On Monday, Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called for a three-way trade deal with the United States and Canada, saying a two-way agreement reached with the U.S. was just a first step.
During the televised interview on Tuesday, Kudlow added: “Look, I think we would like to make a good deal with Canada.”
