Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., on Sunday accused House Democrats of wanting to “slow down” the trial of President Donald Trump in the Senate.
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Lankford said the same group of Democrats wanted the impeachment process to go quickly in the House.
“The House wanted to move as fast as possible now they apparently want to slow down the trial as much as possible in the Senate,” he said.
In a separate interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” he defended the president for saying he doesn’t know Lev Parnas, a former business associate of Rudy Giuliani, who has provided a tape of a dinner meeting with Trump in which he apparently called for the firing of former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yavonovich.
Trump “meets 1000 people a day,” he said.
“Certainly the president meets a lot of people,” he said. “It’s hard to say I remember one person… at a dinner” a year and a half ago, he said.
He also said he isn’t bothered by the White House saying there’s been no interference in the 2020 election with the president’s request that Ukraine investigation corruption by Joe Biden and his son.
“I’ve been confused the entire time with the House managers trying to say, ‘if the President is asking Ukraine for additional information about the 2016 election then that must be interfering in the 2020 election,’ never made sense to me,” he said.
