A House Republican is noting Democrats are conspicuously now calling for reopening businesses as President-elect Joe Biden is about to take office next week.

Rep. Lance Gooden, R-Texas, tweeted Friday:

"Andrew Cuomo plans to end New York's lockdown. Lori Lightfoot plans to open Chicago restaurants. All of this announced with Joe Biden’s inauguration days away. The Democrats' shutdowns were POLITICAL, but for many small businesses they were PERMANENT."

As President Donald Trump leaves office Jan. 20, New York Gov. Cuomo and Democrat Chicago Mayor Lightfoot are moving to reopen businesses they have largely imposed restrictions on amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

Despite COVID-19 outbreaks peaking at all-time highs, both those Democrats are recognizing the need for businesses to open responsibly, an oft-repeated mantra by the Trump administration aimed at Democrat-controlled blue states and cities.

Just a day earlier, Gooden tweeted a rebuke of Biden's supplemental $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus plan:

"Joe Biden wants to spend $2,000,000,000,000 on a new stimulus package. I want to reopen the economy so Americans can get back to work. Big difference!"

Gooden also called out Democrats' second impeachment of President Trump as a "charade" Monday on Twitter:

"Reopen the American economy? No. Restore election integrity? No. Unite the country? No. Protect free speech? No. Introduce an article of impeachment? Yes! This is NOTHING but a Democrat charade!"

Adding in a tweet Tuesday:

"10,700,000 Americans are out of work. Impeachment doesn't get people back to work. Impeachment doesn't reopen the economy. Impeachment doesn't save small businesses. While Americans are struggling to put food on the table, Democrats are focused on a SECOND impeachment sham!"
