Organized Labor Pulls Back From Democrats

Labor unions are almost as unhappy with some Democrats as they are with Republicans, feeling the Democrats haven’t gone far enough to protect them. As a result, organized labor will cut back its monetary and personnel support for the party’s campaign structure in next year’s elections, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says.


Trumka told reporters labor unions will build up their own political organizations rather than joining themselves at the hip with Democratic groups, according to Politico. 


“We’re going to use a lot of our money to build structures that work for working people” Trumka said. “You’re going to see us give less money to build structures for others, and more of our money will be used to build our own structure.”


He confirmed that the AFL-CIO is setting up a super PAC to allow it to spend unlimited funds on the political activity of its choice.
