The Koch political network, supported by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch, unveiled Monday a campaign that takes aim at President Donald Trump’s tariff on key U.S. allies the European Union, Canada, and Mexico, CNBC reported.
While the Koch network usually supports Republicans and conservative causes, the Trump administration’s decision to set tariffs on imported steel and aluminum was a deciding factor in the campaign, CNBC reported.
The network groups—Freedom Partners, Americans For Prosperity, and the Libre Initiative—are launching the campaign in support of free trade, which will include media buys, activist education, grass-roots mobilization, lobbying, and analysis of policy, the report said.
“This campaign makes a clear statement: Trade is a major priority for our network,” said James Davis, Freedom Partners executive vice president. “We will work aggressively to educate policymakers and others about the facts,” Davis said in a statement, the CNBC report said.
“Trade lifts people out of poverty and improves lives. It is critical to America’s future prosperity and our consumers, workers, and companies,” Davis said in the statement.
Libre Initiative president Daniel Garza said that tariffs would hurt members of the Hispanic community, the report said.
Charles Koch blasted the tariffs in April, calling them a “cancer on society,” the Washington Examiner reported.
